Working with families…

I have facilitated many family conferences over the years – often working with family groups to support better communication and break damaging patterns of behaviour.

We learn from our experiences and often repeat the behaviours of our parents, whether good or bad. This can lead to many complex issues within the family, and often we are not aware of the impact that our family dynamic has had on our lives.

We had a series of sessions with our adult children, and found her approach really helpful, particularly around addiction issues, but also with communication and understanding. Susan has a friendly, warm manner, and not at all formal. She also knew when to challenge and push for change. She helped us all to say what we wanted and needed to say, and to bring about the changes that we hoped for.

Family work is not about one person, it is about everyone. Once we build our awareness of certain destructive patterns and we are willing and open to make changes, it is surprising how quickly things can, and do, change.

I worked with Susan during a very stressful breakup of my long-term relationship. She allowed me to express my feelings in a safe environment whilst helping me to unravel the years of living in a toxic relationship. She also counselled my teenage daughter as part of the family work and was able to get her to open up about her feelings - which she said was life-changing, and this, I am really grateful to Susan for. I highly recommend her as a counsellor and someone who can relate to all ages.
